Role Reasoning: Ingo already has an important cultural office as a protector and guardian! And, of course, a lot of this is due to his own innate desire to safeguard others and encourage their growth. He considers it his responsibility to protect and watch over travelers through his territory, but this doesn't seem to actually be a traditional Warden duty at all; he's the only one who personally escorts the player on their mission, even though it doesn't really involve him or Lady Sneasler directly. It's just something he seems to have taken on of his own accord. He also takes up a similar role to his Subway Boss days in Hisui, working at the Training Grounds to help trainers in the region develop their skills and reach new heights.

★ Personality ★

What was the most traumatic experience your character endured? How did this change them?
The most traumatic thing that’s ever happened to Ingo is certainly his arrival to Hisui. While he doesn’t remember precisely whathappened, waking up to find himself stranded in an unfamiliar place with no memory of who he was or what was happening was obviously extremely destabilizing!

He didn’t manage to find any kind of stable footing for a while either – while this is headcanon, the Pearl Clan is canonically extremely suspicious of outsiders,so it seems likely that they took some time to decide that he would be allowed to stay with them. The prospect of being cast out by the only people he knew in the world was terrifying, and while he’s forgiven the whole thing, it’s certainly not forgotten. In the aftermath, Ingo is extremely concerned with looking out for others. He doesn’t want other people to feel afraid and isolated like he did. He’s also very open about sharing his story and worries with people he’s literally just met; he’s got plenty of connections now, but is always sort of looking for more.

If you could give your character a Taylor Swift playlist, which songs would be on it and what would they represent about your character? I can do that!

A Place in this World
I’m alone, on my own
And that’s all I know

Fairly self-explanatory, a reflection of his search for a place in the new world he found himself in post-amnesia.

Begin Again
On a Wednesday in a café
I watched it begin again

Similar to above, but more contemplative about starting his life over as an adult, figuring out who he is as a person and what he wants to do with his life.

champagne problems
Love slipped beyond your reaches
And I couldn’t give a reason

A reflection of Ingo's feelings about (hypothetically, in his mind) the people whom he's inadvertently left behind, and continues to fail by not managing to remember, and thoughts about whether or not they still think about him. Also it mentions trains so I'm legally obligated.

coney island
Did I paint your bluest skies the darkest grey?
A universe away

Again, an apology of sorts for leaving, even if he doesn't really know what or who he left.

ivy
My house of stone, your ivy grows
And now I’m covered in you

A song about being torn between his present and his past - maybe he belongs, theoretically, to another place, but right now he's in Hisui and he can't help but care for the place and its people more than some distant life he can't recall.

evermore
I rewind the tape, but all it does is pause
On the very moment all was lost

More hurting from the amnesia, but also somewhat about moving on and not worrying quite so much about it anymore. He has a life in the present too, after all.

New Year's Day
Hold on to the memories
They will hold on to you

Again, look at these lyrics, legally obligated.

I Forgot That You Existed
I forgot that you existed
I did, I did, I did

lmao honestly this is the comedy song pick

What is your character's safespace? When do they feel the most settled and comfortable? When do they feel confident and relaxed?
Ingo feels happiest and most confident when he is in a battle! His living situation in Hisui isn't quite ideal; as a Warden, he lives alone on Mount Coronet near Lady Sneasler's lair, but while he does enjoy the peace of it he's a fairly social person and does also get lonely. His secondary home in Jubilife isn't necessarily that comfortable for him either, though, given that town's tense history with both the Clans and people who fall mysteriously from the sky. Ingo felt comfortable in the Pearl settlement, but he hasn't really spent a great deal of time there outside of holidays for years.

While battling, though, Ingo feels extremely in his element. It's natural enough to him that battle can occasionally help him unlock buried memories. Pokemon battles are considered a form of expression in the world of Pokemon, a way to share your feelings and forge bonds with both your Pokemon and your opponent. It’s a sort of communication he understands inherently, something shared between both his past and present selves.

What would your character sacrifice to get what they want or to reach their potential? What have they sacrificed already?
This is something of a complicated question for Ingo. There’s some things he’s sacrificed to attain what he sees as real potential already – in spite of his worries about belonging and attachment to the Pearl Clan, he acts in several ways that are absolutely not socially normal for Hisui due to his own personal beliefs. The fact that he has multiple Pokemon partners and keeps them in Pokeballs definitely makes him an outlier, but he believes strongly in Pokemon/human partnership! Also, once he finds trainers who can challenge him competitively, he wants to reach new heights in battling!

That’s easy, though, compared to the question of his memories. Ingo wants to remember who he used to be and where he came from; it’s his greatest personal goal, and even one of the things he hopes to achieve through battling. But he never really discusses what he might do with this information if he learned it. He’s built himself a new life in Hisui. He’s content there; his search is more about self-knowledge than about any apparent sense of unhappiness. So, if he did remember – would he sacrifice everything he knows and loves to return to his past life?  It’s an issue he hasn’t had to face quite yet.
